President His Excellency Dr. Lazarus Chakwera says his state visit to Mozambique was fruitful based on the number and magnitude of assignments he undertook while there.
Speaking on Sunday at Kamuzu International Airport upon landing, the President highlighted that Malawi and Mozambique has made considerable progress on issues of Energy, Trade and Investment.

While in Mozambique the President, together with his Mozambican counterpart Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, launched the Mozambique- Malawi Interconnector project in Tete Province before inspecting the Port of Nacala same day.
He said his government remains committed to ensure that Malawi has adequate power both for domestic and industrial use hence his belief that the Interconnector project is a huge milestone.
On the Nacala Port visit, the President said he was delighted that there are expansion works taking place and that his development will be key to increased volumes of Malawi’s imports and exports via the port.

There were also a range of bilateral talks that touched on trade and investment. The two countries are working hard to increase bilateral after decades of low volumes.
Besides the normal bilateral talks that the two Presidents had, they also discussed security issues in Cabo Delgado Province.
“In my capacity as SADC chair I was also updated on security issues in Mozambique and how we are progressing to ensure lasting peace in the region,” he recalled.
This was President Chakwera’s maiden state visit to Mozambique since he assumed office in 2020.
