NEW CHINESE AMBASSADOR COMMITS TO DEEPEN DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS

The new People’s Republic of China Ambassador to Malawi, His Excellency Mr. Long Zhou, says the diplomatic relations between the two nations must be strengthened to promote democratic cooperation.

The new envoy was speaking on Thursday in Lilongwe when he presented copies of his Letters of Credence to His Excellency Dr Lazarus Chakwera at Kamuzu Palace.

He further commended the leadership of President Chakwera saying under his stewardship, Malawi is on the right path of sustainable economic development.

Ambassador Zhou described the meeting with the Malawi leader as successful and constructive.

In her remarks, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo MP, said the Chinese government has proven over the past fifteen years that it is a valuable partner in development evident through infrastructure projects either funded by the Chinese government or implemented by contractors from the East Asian economy.  

She said President Chakwera has asked all Chinese-led projects to be expedited so that the people of Malawi benefit from the fruits of those projects that are ongoing.

Malawi and China relations are built on collaboration and support in several key sectors of the economy including health, education and agriculture.
